OVERVIEW

Pesca Maya is one of the destinations that every angler should be required to visit.  Very understated and relaxed.  If you want a bungalow right on the white sandy beach, you can get it here.  This place exudes pure fishing without all the pretension of some of the other destinations.  Located about 90 miles south of Cancun inside the gigantic Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, Pesca Maya is a destination even if you only have one day to get your flats fix in.  In a nutshell, think of it this way; secluded beach front, ocean breezes, endless flats and huge lagoons, unlimited fishing potential and easy on the budget.

FISHING

Variety is the main attraction at Pesca Maya.  This unique location is virtually surrounded on all sides by water.  This gives the angler options to pursue fish on the expansive flats or in the tranquil and shallow lagoons.  One can also zip down into Ascension bay and wade or pole the many secluded keys found there.  Bonefish and Permit are the main staple for anglers who fish here.  Many anglers new to the salt environment achieve their first success with these two fish here.  Huge schools of Bonefish and Permit appear and disappear on these flats daily.  It is a very real possibility to catch your “Grand Slam” or even a “Super Slam” here.  Often, bonefish and permit are caught in the mornings and then anglers run into the lagoons to track down Snook and Tarpon.  The guides here are all first rate and many of them have become our close friends over the years.  Pesca Maya also provides an apprentice guide in the pangas.  This is really handy when the guide needs to pole the panga to the tailing permit and you need to switch rods. 

TARGET SPECIES

Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, Snook, Barracuda, Sharks, Jacks, Snappers, and many of the pelagic species such as Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado on the ocean side during the proper season.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Pesca Maya has two main facilities for anglers to enjoy.  The main focus is the SeaClusion Villa where the majority of “pre and post angling” activities are undertaken.  There is also the Robinson House.  Both of these villas together provide the true feel of the Caribbean.

The villas have the feel and vibe of the area and are very well appointed and comfortable.

Plenty of deck space running right to the white beach and hammocks and lounge chairs to relax in.  Grab a tropical drink from the bar and tell stories (or tall tales). 

CAPACITY

With the ability to host 22 anglers Pesca Maya is the perfect large group, small group or Corporate Group.  Of course you can always visit solo if you are hiding from the spouse.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT OFFERED

Fishing here is done from the ever-present “pangas”.  The 23’ pangas are locally made and use 40 or 50 hp Yamaha motors.  Huge casting decks and they only draft 6” making nearly any flat accessible.  Pesca Maya has a small fly shop with limited gear and flies.  They do have fly rods and spinning gear available for a daily rate.  We highly recommend bringing you own.

HOW TO GET THERE

You will need to fly (don’t walk) to Cancun, Mexico, and plan on arrival between 11:00 am and 2:00 PM Cancun time. Cancun is serviced by numerous domestic carriers including American Airlines, Continental, and US Air. Direct flights are available from Miami, Dallas, Houston, Newark, Denver, LA and several other cities. Connections from most US cities permit arrivals before 2:00 PM which is advised for your shuttle service down to the lodge.  The shuttle to the lodge usually take 3 or 31/2 hours depending on how much you want to rubber-neck at all the cool  scenery.

NON-ANGLING ACTIVITIES

Pesca Maya is another destination located in the immense Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.  Here try this on for size,  You can: Shop in Tulum or Playa del Carmen, Dive, Snorkel, Bird watch, Eco-tour, Ruins Tour, swim with Whale sharks, dolphins, manatees, probably even Barracuda with you really wanted to.  Don’t forget that Pesca Maya can even offer SPA THERAPY AND TREATMENT.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR TRAVEL

All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport that does not expire within 6 months of trips dates. Please be sure that your passport has at least two blank, unstamped pages remaining in back, and that it is not torn, delaminated, or damaged in any way. No visas or inoculations are required for U.S. citizens. A Mexican departure tax is payable at the airport when leaving Mexico. Some airlines include this as a pre-paid part of your ticket. Please check with your travel agent or carrier to verify this.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

All lodging and fishing specified in your package, round trip ground transfer to Cancun Airport to Pesca Maya Lodge, three meals per day, applicable Mexican VAT taxes, all beverages, soft drinks, open bar, Mexican beer and rum, bottled water and wine. NOT INCLUDED
