OVERVIEW

New Zealand is legendary for its trout fishing.  It is really not “fishing” here.  It is more accurately described as “hunting” fish.  The South Island of New Zealand is the absolute pinnacle of this “hunting” for fish.  The anglers sense of accomplishment after landing one of these magnificent trout is tremendous.  This is sight casting to giant fish at its best.  If you desire the hunt and like to see your quarry, the South Island is for you.  There are more miles of pristine and unpressured trout water here than is possibly imaginable.  Few places other than the South Island offer such a wildness experience while catching wild fish.  Helicopters and Land Rovers are the preferred methods of transportation to get you hooked up to fish.

FISHING

When you fish in NZ, the key is flexibility.  Having the ability to roam to many different rivers will amplify your success.  Weather is a major factor in NZ.  Having a guide with the local knowledge of “where to go, when....”  can make all the difference.  Based in the middle of the South Island in the Cantebury Plains, guests will be able to access multiple rivers throughout their visit.  The offering of types of rivers is staggering.  Many are in valleys and gorges, others meander through gentle fields of tussocks.  Wild brown trout and rainbows are the mainstay quarry.  These fish are so big, they are usually spotted by your guides from a great distance. Stealth fishing is the rule in NZ.  These fish are very keen to their surroundings and good presentations are a must.  Days spent fishing here are on no schedule whatsoever.  Time is irrelevant. Take a break, eat lunch, when you want to. Perfect.
