Costa Rica Tarpon Fishing - Fly Fishing in Tarponville, Manzanillo, Costa Rica
For years fishermen have heard rumors of large tarpon in great numbers on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, near the border with Panama. Well, the "mother lode" has been found! After numerous trips, sportfishing specialists have now developed a fishing operation in this previously unknown sportfishing area. Tarpon weighing over 130 lb. have been landed on both lure and fly. Twenty hook-ups in a morning has been accomplished, and tarpon over 170 lb. have been jumped. Furthermore, the fishing waters are situated in a wildlife and marine reserve, which insures management and protection of the fish and habitat.
With excellent accommodations and beautiful views, the area has been noted by Outside Magazine as "one of the most beautiful deserted beaches in the world." (October, 1999) All rooms are on the beach front, with telephones, TV, and air-conditioning. Visitors may also enjoy the large swimming pool and restaurant serving the best Caribbean and Costa Rican dishes around.

Pesca Maya: The Grand Slam fishing capital of the world!
Variety is the word to describe Ascension Bay and Bocapaila flats. As you can see in the flats-map there are hundreds of square miles where it’s common to see bonefish, permit, tarpon and barracuda in the same day, all year round! With seasons for migrants tarpon and snook. That’s why probably more Grand Slams have been caught here than anywhere else. You certainly have to bring tackle for all this species an at least 3 rods to be ready any time. After reservation we will send you complete tackle list.
The Flats: We can go South and in 15 minutes be in Ascension Bay or if the wind is to hard we can go North and find flats surrounded by mangroves that help to protect. Both places are well known for its bonefish, permit, tarpon, and barracuda abundance.
 
Isla Holbox: Hotel Faro Viejo
Isla Holbox located on the northeast tip of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico is blessed with one of the world's outstanding tarpon habitats. Holbox is a small and virgin island with beautiful white sand beaches, surrounded by a magnificent turquoise colored sea, that is unknown so far by most people. Fantastic as it is, come to Isla Holbox for world-class tarpon flyfishing. Here in the shallow mangrove flats you will find abundant baby tarpon and snook throughout the year. However it is the migratory fish that make Holbox a unique flyfishing destination. In April, migrating fish begin to feed in the clear water of the shallows, but the best flyfishing is during June, July and August. Bonefish, barracuda, snapper, permit and jack crevalle are also abundant here in the spring and summer.
Cancun: Villas Managlar At Villas Managlar, anglers have a very good chance of getting a super grand slam in a few days of fishing. The main targeted species are tarpon, snook, bonefish, permit, snapper, barracuda, sea trout, among many other fish like cobia, baby sharks, african pampano, grouper, yellow tail and snapper. The area produces fish all year around, peak months for all species are march through december.
The area that we fish is only 30-45 minutes drive north of Cancún, our guide will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel every day, with only a few days of fishing anglers will experience fishing in shallow sandy flats, lagoons, chanels, holes in the flats, grassy flats, mangrove flats and open ocean. Most all of the fishing is done from the boat, although there are a few flats that can be waded.

Over years we have found many unexplored bonefish, tarpon, and permit flats in Chetumal Bay and the mangrove fringed lagoons. Twenty-nine productive flats and lagoons have now been mapped, our local guides continue to find and explore new flats. Year-round we have Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit, you can also catch Snook, Jacks, Tuna, Barracuda, Snapper, Grouper, Dorado, Marlin, Sailfish, and more.

Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca is nestled on a private beach between Ascension Bay and Espiritu Santo Bay in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico.
